Default Clicking noise from front of car

recently on the highway something fell off a truck a few cars up and i hear a bang! like metal piece snaping. ive checked very throughly and cant see any physical damage. the noise is like when putting a card on the bike spokes. and it seems to increase rapid rotations when i apply the brake. the noise happens when i am driving straight. i cant hear it when turning. i know most ppl say if your turning and it makes the sound its the cv joint. im looking for other possibilities?? any thoughts?? could it be the hub bearings?

Jack it up and spin the wheel by hand, grab the wheel at 6 and 12 o'clock and shake, then grab it at 3 and 9 o'clock and shake. Then pull the wheel off and have a look at all the brake components, rotor, backing plate, CV joint... all of it.
It should be obvious when you look at it and feel it.
