Coolant Flush

I had my thermostat and ECT replaced under extended warranty today. When they came out to talk to me, they noted that my coolant was dirty and should be flushed. For one thing, when they replaced the thermostat, didn't they have to drain at least a decent amount of coolant? The bigger question, however, is that the manual says the coolant should never need to be changed.

I'm not real interested in paying $100 for a coolant change, and it's too cold right now to even consider doing it myself (have never done it).

Any thoughts? Any easy way to test how "dirty" my coolant really is?

Thanks

There is this tool you use to suck up some coolant, it looks like a syringe almost. Inside you'll see a thing floating which will tell you if your coolant is good enough for low temps.
That would be for BAD coolant, now DIRTY coolant is easy to check. I've never seen dirty coolant but my guess is it would be any other color than the original Blue/Green/Red
