Dim Lights

I dim the interior lights during the day in hopes of preserving the bulb-life, but I may be doing more damage than good. Am I putting more wear on the dimmer switch, scrolling it up or down when the sun goes down?

Also, I notice that sometimes (about 50 percent of the time), when I start the car and the lights are dimmed, the odometer, transmission gear display, clock, etc in the gauge cluster, as well as the radio display are also dimmed. These are supposed to be bright all the time for good visibility. After about a minute, they brighten up again, while the rest of the interior lights are still dim. What's going on? Sometimes, I will scroll the dimmer switch so everything is fully illuminated, then scroll it back to dim after about a minute and that fixes it too, as the things are are supposed to be fully illuminated are.

Hey, my car does this every time I start it. The instrument panel will be somewhat dim, then after about 30 seconds, it will brighten up. Is this normal or a sign of something wrong?

I have no idea - I hope not something going bad. Mine never used to do this until about 4-5 months ago.
