Default Error Code UEM0004

Everytime I turned ON my 02 S60 non-turbo, I keep on getting this message on the dashboard "Alarm System Service Required", it will be there for about 3 seconds, and will disappear. The dealer said the alarm code was UEM0004 ($80 just to read them), and so I need an alarm siren ($325 parts and labor). My question is, can I just have Circuit City install an aftermarket alarm system ($150 with free installation) without affecting my car's alarm system like immobilizer?

The alarm siren is part of the vehicle's network... cannot be just taken out of a system.. I've seen sunroof not working cause by that code UEM-0004.. Not to mention when u remove that siren out of network will make the central electronic module think that it have an alarm fault and keep flashing your 4 way hazard light as if alrm triggered(eventually will drain vehicle's battery).

Thanks mncx! I am assuming the alarm siren is not just the speaker, is this like a small computer controlling the alarm securiuty system?

Yes it is. It is pretty much a small computer.
