Default Fuel Pump Problems

Hello Folks,

Yesterday I went to thegas station to fill up on gas as I was close to empty on gas. When I started pumping the gas something strange happened that has never happened to me ever before (on any car that I own). The pump stopped pumping into the gas tank every two seconds. At one point (the third try), the fuel actually overflowed out of my gas tank. I know I am low on gas; however, my tank refuses to fill up and stops the pump everytime I try filling up. (you know when filling up at the pump the pump automatically stops when it reaches a certain level that's considered enough for a car?, welli reach that every two seconds of pumping on an empty thank)Not sure what the problem is and I am going to head to the mechanic tomorrow, but I would like hear if this has happened to anyone before and what was the cause? I don't want to get ripped off at the mechanic because it's rough times as it is, so please let me know what can be done.

Thank you.

Have your mechanic check the gas tank vent tube. Spiders like to build nests in there and plug them up, resulting in the symptoms you are describing.

Hello,

Where is this vent tube located? I was having the same problems yesterday but still managed to get $20 worth of gas.
