Horn and Alarm Problems

Well I searched around and found a thread about how someones lights dont flash when they lock the car...same thing for me, but I couldn't get help from the thread. It seems like it started right after I cleared my OBDII, but Im not sure. They don't flash when I lock it, but they do when the alarm goes off. But when the alarm goes off, the horn doesn't go off...it doesn't work at all, actually. I've checked the fuse and the horns themselves and both are fine. I think that the relay is good too, as I can hear it clicking when I hit the horn and have the underhood fuse box open, but the horn doesn't sound. The next thing Im going to try is find the connections (Ive replugged the ones on the horns) that go to the switch in the wheel, and then Ill try to find the switch in the steering wheel...but Im kinda worried that the airbag will blow up in my face.

Any ideas?

Thanks

If the lights don't flash when you lock it either a door lock is bad or something else is wrong.
The alarm siren is located in the R/F fender under the liner.

As for the horn not sure about that.

Well everything locks, including the gas cover thing. Do you know where the cable that comes from the horn goes?? Ive been looking and trying to find a loose connection or something, but I cant find it. Ill check the siren.

I tested the car with a voltmeter and heres what I got:
To begin with, the fuse is good, and when the key is in II, I get 12V across the fuse (the fuse is out) with the horn pressed or not. I get no power to the horns. With the fuse in, however, I get nothing, even though I can hear the relay clicking when I hit the horn. Ill test it again, since that makes no sense. But I gather that the switch in the wheel is good, the horns are good, the they relay may or may not be good, and the wiring may or may not be good. Can I take one of the other relays in the underhood fuse box and plug it into where the horn one's at without messing anything up?

Like I said, Ill check the siren, and the voltage with the fuse in.

I would swap the relay and see what happens.

Tried it, same problem...Relay still clicks, no horn or anything. Im testing the switch that tells if the hood is closed to see if thats working, because if not then thats why the lights dont flash. And if I were to get to the siren, I have to cut those rivets, don't I? is there any other way or a way to put the rivets back in?

Thanks

You will need to buy new rivets.
Also the screw holding the siren in is a break off screw. meaning when it reaches a certain torque the head breaks off. You will have to cut a groove in it then use a screwdriver to loosen it.
Then you can install a regular screw.

RE: Horn and Alarm Problems

Well the siren is good. It works, and magically the alarm works again. I still have the problem of the lights and the horn. Where can I get these rivets? Are they regular ones like you get at the hardware store? Also, the plastic rivets that hold the front part of the bumper (the part that the grille is in) that attach it to the frame, as seen from under the hood, have gone missing. Meaning I lost them. Where can I get new ones of those?

I think that the problem with the horn is between the fuses and the horns themselves. Is there are connection in that wiring that I can check? Also I believe that the problem with the lights is related to the sensor that tells the car if the hood is closed or not. Because I rolled down the window, and shut everything and locked the car...and came back about twenty minutes later, I reached in the window and popped the hood, and the alarm didn't go off. When I unlocked the door manually and opened it, the alarm DID go off. So I unplugged the sensor that shorted it with a wire, and still the lights didn't flash. UGH. Maybe the wiring is reversed so when it's disconnected the car thinks the hood is closed??? I don't know.

Any thoughts?

Thanks alot for the help.

I would think you would have to put a jumper wire on the plug for the hood switch for the computer to think it is closed.

Not sure about the wiring let mesee if I can get you a wiring diagram.

I will bet the alarm will mess up again. The sirens go bad all the time.

I put a jumper on and it still doesn't work. I think that there is a problem with the wiring between the fuses and the switch or something...where do those wires go from the hood switch? To the fuses?

Also I think that there is a problem with the wiring between the horns and the relay...the relay works and the horns work...UGH I have no idea what to do...is there anything that I can test?

Thanks

You might also have a bad door lock.

Let me see if i can dig up the diagram for you.
