How many is too many (miles that is)

Hi all:

New to forum.

Looking to buy a manual S60 T5. I have a really short commute, and we already have a "nice" car (xc70) that we take on trips and my wife uses as daily driver.

My budget is $6000-$7500 and I'm willing to travel 1000mi. to pick it up (I'm in Colorado).

I'm debating just how many miles I will be comfortable with. Expensive maintenance is OK, I just don't want any big surprises. If you were me, how far would you be willing to go? I'll be adding about 20k miles over the next three years, then I'll either keep it if she's running sweet or move on. My initial thoughts are limit it to about 75k -- but these days a 100k car has lots of life left. Thoughts?

As the first year of the model, should I stay away from '01?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

-Jake

hey, just to provide a little bit of insite. For your budget you should be able to find something fairly decent without having to look at the 100k mark. At your upper end of your budget, $7500 or so, you should be able to find a nice manual with probably 75k. As far as years i have only heard bad things about the 01's with the auto tranny having some issues. I jsut bought my volvo about 2 weeks ago. Its an 01 auto T5 with 98k and she runs excellent with no forseen tranny issues, i took a risk but got it for $6200 from some people i knew previously so i was comfortable with the purcahse. That being said, if you keep up with the maintainence like you should, your volvo will last well into the up 100,000s possibly higher. Good luck finding a car!
