It's most likely the lock cylinder. It will work sometimes, and sometimes not. In another post, someone recommended graphite powder (or lube) and that seemed to help. Bottom line is what tech said: it will happen again. You don't want to be stranded when it does so I'd get it fixed.

It's actually not too bad to do yourself if you want to save some money.

Usually if it gets stuck it is not the lock cylinder.
Either the shift lock override button is stuck down some or the shifter button is not going all the way back properly.

They are all pretty easy to replace.

Default Key won't turn and SRS light coming on

I have a 2004 S60R that I parked in my garage for a couple months, and when I tried to start it initially, I got the "click, click, click". Slow charged the battery and when I went to start it, the key will not go past the 1st position and the SRS light comes on (which is the icon showing the air bag engaged). I too am trying to avoid a "tow". Thanks for any help!

All the best,

HI TECH;

Ok - you mentioned, they are easy to replace - which one? the shiftlock over-ride button or the shifter button OR both? would graphite lubricant spray work on these? Can WD-40 be used in place of the graphite lubricant? Please respond quickly. Thank you.

Default Key Stuck, now CD player issue

I used WD-9 for this "KEY STUCK' in position 0 - due to button on gear shift was barely moving....hurray...I'm sure I saved a bundle today! But, there is a problem with my CD player - it is giving me this following message:
"CD ERROR" - how can I fix this? And I hope I can, because I'm not returning to those who are hungry to charge you high prices for a little problem.
I took the car to a Volvo dealership with the Key Stuck issue - they wanted $115 just for the diagnosis! - And would probably charge another $100-150 on top of that to fix the issue - AND ALL IT NEEDED WAS A LUBRICANT JOB!!!

Glad the shifter is ok.
The C/D player not sure on usually something is bad. I would try to buy a used one cheap and swap it out.
