Lowering S60 AWD
 

Need to change my front strut assembly soon and it is most likely that I will also need new coil springs as well. I was thinking of getting the Eibach lowering kit (for AWD) to use with Bilstein struts. This is just because the Eibach kit will cost the same as volvo oem coils and I can get 4 (including rears) instead of just 2 if I buy OEM.

Question is, is it advisable to lower the car 1-1.5" considering it is AWD ? I read somewhere and someone also told me that doing this might have negative effect on AWD system. I will of course do alignment and camber adjustment afterwards. ALso read on this forum that some shops might not even attempt to do the alignment.

Did not lower it.

Went with Biltsein HDs and volvo coils.

Hopefully it wont look bad when I decide to go with 18" wheels later.

I have been running Eibachs with stock shocks for two years with no problems, looks good and drives good too.

I have a 2003 AWD S60 ans i have been thinking what i should do with my suspension an such. I want it to look good but with all the seasons and the streets out here i dont think its a good idea to drop it. what are you suggestions? I will be up grading to 18" wheels ina couple of weeks.

so your saying i should NOT drop it and go with the regular suspension so when i put the 18" inch wheels on it will still ride good in the city streets?

I know I don't have an S60, but if you put on 18's and don't drop it, I think it's going to look awkward. Nice big rims with a big gap between the weel and finder, I don't know about that. If you spend the money on nice wheels, might as well lower it to give it that finished look. A lot of people leave the stock struts/shocks and just throw on some IPD or H&R lowering springs, a less expensive alternative to redoing the whole suspension.

Thanks I know that is what i have to do!! My suspension right now feels a little loose and i would like it to be a little bit more sportier. If thats the case i can purchase lowering springs that will lower the car about 1.4" and if it still feels a little loose i will do the more with the suspension.

what is your opinion on good after market suspensions?

Check IPD, they have a bunch of options. IPD has their own lowering springs that are a little bit less expensive than other people, and when it comes time for me to get lowering springs, that is what I will do. Their springs, for the 850 at least, drop the car 1.6 to about 1.75 inches.

yeah that sounds good but, my other concern was during the winter in snow i really love how my AWD handles!! i thin i might be compromising my handling with the ground clearance. what do think i can do??

I lowered my S60 using the Eibach springs with a caster/camber kit as well with 18 in rims and cannot complain at all with the performance and get all kind of compliments with the finished look however will need to upgrade on struts to a performance unit to become a lil more tightness in the response area.

Sorry to bring back a old post. But what part number did you guys go with on the Eibach kit? I have a 03 S60 AWD and on the eibach site it only shows camber bolts for my car, no lowering springs.
