message center acting up

I have a 2003 s60 and have an issue with the message center, I am going to try and explain this the best way I possibly can, the message center which tells you how many miles your getting per gallon, miles till empty, avg. speed and all messages related to your car i.e. fuel door unlatched, door open.....srs airbag warning etc.... is acting up. I noticed about a week ago that it was sorta scrambling, the display was not able to be read, it's like watching tv and having the picture scramble on you and your not be able to make anything out(not sure if I am making sense?). Now when I start my car it does not display any message, if you turn the knob to try and see your mpg's, miles till empty it is blank. I thought it could have been from a very intense rain storm we had getting something wet and hoping that as as it dried up the display would eventually return, but now I think it appears to either be a short causing the problem or the display it's self going bad....any ideas? has anyone experienced this problem before? thanks in advance

the display itself does work, I am just wondering if I needed some software updated or software reload??? I can at times read what the display says other times its jumbled, so I am really not sure to make of it and I am surprised that nobody else has experienced this problem, who knows maybe this post will help someone in the future if we are able to rectify this issue! thanks everyone for your input

hmmm, maybe an electrical issue --> loose connection sumwhere

reset your computers...its worth a try

unplug BOTH connectors on your battery and touch them together for 5 seconds
this will clear the power out of all of your capacitors and thustly reset your computers

no take your key and put it in the ignition and turn to position 2

reconnect your battery

remove the key then reinsert it and start the car

(putting it in position 2 before attatching the battery should prevent the imobilizer from kicking in, if not then just try to start your car it might take 3 trys)
