New Member - Engine swap question
We bought my daughter a 2004 S60 2.5 T FWD last year and 5 days after getting her license she managed to wrap it around a power pole on a snow covered road. She is ok, the car is of course totaled, but the car still runs and drives (transmission goes into gear, etc). The car had an exceptional maintenance history and 165k.
We are considering buying a similarly configured chassis to swap her drive train into.
Questions:
What year range are acceptable for such a swap (2001-2006 etc)
Will the engine and transmission from the FWD model work with an AWD model?
Will a 2.5T drive train work with a 2.4 model?
What components of the engine (throttle body, etc) will need to remain with the original car and ECU to avoid ECU reprogramming?
Finally, after looking at some information online and examining the car, I believe it will be easiest to remove the drive train (engine & trans) as an assembly with the front cross member (suspension subframe), lowering the assembly from the body. Is this a correct assumption?
Any advice or information is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
OJ
