New member with S60 2.5T question
Greetings,
Just acquired a 2008 Volvo S60 2.5T, 44,000 miles, from my mother's estate.
Car was mostly used in Florida.
Checked value on Kelley Blue Book, $6,000 private sale, $3,500 trade-in.
Very nice car.
Need your opinion.
Any big issues with a Volvo this old that may crop up.
Should I keep or should I sell considering age and possible future big repair expense issues?.
Seems like I would be taking a big $ hit on value considering the car is in pristine condition.
Would like to keep as long as there are no documented big issues with this age and model Volvo.
Thanks in advance.
Patrick

I'd say that is a keeper! I'd easily pay $6K. This is a good year for Volvo S60s - most of the bigger issues were resolved by 2004. About 12 years ago I acquired my mom's 2000 S40 - had like 30K miles on it. Took it in for a dealer inspection (service bulletins etc) and they were awed by how rare it was to see such a clean low mileage car. Today its still my son's dailer driver, has about 130K miles. Its 20 now so I have to do the usual repairs as they crop up. What I'd do is 1) check the maintenance history and update using calendar recommendations not miles. Timing belts are 10 years/120K miles so the car should be on its second belt/idler/tensioner. If not, that's top priority. Usually people check the oil separator for the turbo engines but given your low miles, I don't think that'd be a concern for a whle. Next is to do all the fluids if they have not been refreshed at the recommended time intervals ie 5 years for coolant, 2 for brake fluid. As to the tranny and power steering - check levels, color etc. Can't hurt to do a drain fill but not a priority. Replace the air filter, cabin air filter. Spark plugs are due at 60K so may be worth doing now as a baseline.

I'm used to driving much smaller cars but this car is so nice I think I will keep it.
