Quick Question

Hello guys,

Just a quick question. Just got a 2005 volvo S60, I like the car alot cuz it drives great and looks great. had only 70,000 miles on it. Are these cars considered to be good cars? I am very new to volvo. How much more years do you think is left in it?

Thanks guys.

These cars are very good cars. You just need to maintain it properly and you could probably get at least 10 to 15 more years from your car.

You're welcome. Also if you need parts for repairs or upkeep, check out IPD, FCP Groton or RM European. They tend to be good places and cheaper than the dealer. IPD also has some performance parts if you wanted to do an engine tune or suspension upgrade. Which model do you have?

I have the 2005 S60. What oil is recommended? It's at 70,000 miles now, want to know the best oil for the engine.

I meant what engine, 2.4, 2.5T, T5 or R. I believe a 5W30 is recommended. Also go for a synthetic oil. Although Castrol is recommended, I believe a good oil that is easy to obtain would be Pennzoil Ultra, along with a Mahle Oil Filter which is the OEM manufacturer. But, i'm going to try out Lubromoly 5W30 which is a German oil.

Its 2.4. I know I have a lot of questions but is it difficult to change the Rotor and brakes on these cars? I took it in for some preventative maintenance and the brakes will need changing soon, pepboys quoted about $350 to change the fron brakes and rotors. I worked on cars on my own in the past, even changed a complete engine. I know some of these repair shops tend to look for things to make you spend, LOL!

I've never done them before, but here is a DIY guide for an S80 that I found:

It doesn't look too difficult. Next time, I will probably do my own rotors and pads. Also order online because it's cheaper. I don't really trust places to work on my S60 at all really, especially a place like pepboys or just a general place to fix cars. If needed, i'd go to a Volvo specialist.

Thanks man, I called the place where I bought it and they said that I should bring the car in and they will change the brakes. I hope the techs do a good job, just like you I don't trust just anyone to work on my car so I can only hope. I believe it's no cost to me so I will give it a shot. Will update when done. Hey thanks for al the info man, I really appreciate it. :)

You're welcome. And for the 75K service that is upcoming, you can do most of the work yourself also. It's mainly filters and fluids.
