rattling noise during acceleration??

so i just have a standard 5 spd 2.4 03 s60 and when i accelerate (more in second gear) i hear a weird rattling noise... i cant tell where exactly its comming from so i dont know what to do really...its just annoying and i'd like to fix it.

I'm just speculating, but based on the rattling you are hearing it sounds exhaust related. I would guess it might be a loose heat shield if it is coming from the engine compartment. Try duplicating the noise in neutral at a standstill.

Is that a question or a statement?

Im having the same issues on my C70. when I accelerate it feels like its on the right hand side of the car up front. Im going to try and accelerate in idle to see if it also happens. Mine seems to be intermittent also.

I'm having the same noise with my 2000 (x) V40 2.0t.

It only happens when the car has been idle for a while and only lasts for a few seconds while accelerating, usualy between 30 and 70mph and in the lower gears.

I've tried explaining it to the garage but they can't get the same problem when driving it and its hard to describe the noise.

Have you had any progress ICE or thevulva?

Hi Guys, On my way to work this morning someone beeped me and mentioned something was loose under my car. I thanked the guy and pulled over and found my stone tray guard had come loose and was pretty low to the ground. when I started the car this morning I noticed that the rattling noise had gone and im wondering could it be due to the stone tray coming completely loose ? perhaps this is something others could check.

no i dont think its the exhaust, it sounds more from the front half of the car... its like a metalic rattling noise...almost the same as if you were shaking a spray paint can...

You might be pinging because you're using to poor a fuel grade.

I know this is an old thread but I'm having the exact same problem descibed. Has anyone managed to find out what this is and how to fix it please? It really is intermittent but really annoying and the car goes from purring like a car to sounding like a rattling tractor!!!! It sounds more like a rattle but had read somewhere the cones in the cat can go (although just sailded through the MOT so guessing if there was a problem with the cat it would have failed emissions?) Could this be the flex pipe? HELP! :-)

i think it has something to do with the exhaus as well.
i just started hearing the sound and it's when it get's to that rev and changes the gears(automatic)

at the same time i have the exhaust check light on all the time now.

it could be a Catalytic Converter, in my brothers car there was a rattling noise and when we got it checked out, that was the problem. it just needed to be replaced. i believe his costed around $400.

knock/clucking noise

Hello. I have a Volvo S40 2.4i 2010 manual transmission. I really appreciate if someone can tell me why each time I accelerate and have to shift from 1-2 speed I have a knock sound coming from the right site to the middle of the car also happens when I turn left. I replaced: right motor mount, torque mount, passenger CV Axel, lower control arms, suspensions, I have new tires, also I changed or flushed the transmission fluid. I took the car to the garage and the mechanic doesnt have any idea what that sound can be, everything look perfect.any suggestion please. Thank you
