replace oil trap/breather hose

Dealer quoted me $514 for:
Breather hose replacement alongwith oil trap, intake manifold gask ..

is this fair price? also is a broken oil breather hose emergency and needs immediate repair?
thanks

dealer price

I would get some more estimates to get a feel for whats out there.I price checked a timing belt job and the dealer was cheaper than some other shops.I would surely want my car serviced at a qualified volvo dealer than a general repair shop, unless you know a reliable referance for another shop.
good luck, Bob

you didn't note your make/model but it sounds reasonable. Take a look at FCPEURO.COM to see what their parts kit include - for all the hoses/clips and oil trap it's probably $150 worth of parts. Next you can go to Youtube to watch a few vids on what the process is to replace the parts. I know on the 850s you need to lift off the intake manifold to get at all the parts so 3 hours labor seems about right. so at $120/hour, I'd expect a $510 quote. The only question I have for you is whether you just want to fix the hose or are there issues with the oil trap/breather (some tests can be done to see if the engine is pushing air out the dip stick or filler cap). Did the hose tear or just come off? I've seen other posts where DIY's have had to use some sealant to get the hoses to stay put... check the 850 and S70 boards as well for similar posts.
