I recently changed my cam seals, and thought I had the cams all marked and good, not so. So what I need is to re-time my engine. The only place around here is the dealership and I can't afford them. What I want to know is how to retime it, i've read that you can't because it'll destroy something, which makes no sense because it would have to be timed if you replaced a head. whatever it is it seems it can't be far out, I just want to know how to reset the cams to time. I realize now I should figured out how to lock them from the back but I couldn't see the back of my cams. Any help would be greatly appreciated, my wife's mom is getting tired of us having her spare car.

ETA: this is a 2003 2.4T with the VVT on the exhaust.
