Right front spring seat replacement

Got a bunch of racket coming from front end, turns out the right front spring seat is broken, anybody tackled that little ditty?

What year? pretty common failure point in general for S60 and V60s. They aren't hard to do as long as you have a spring compressor. Get ya safety squints on! Best to get an alignment after and I would honestly do both sides if one side failed.

I did this on a 2000 S40. (1 front, 2 rears so far...) My son is driving around with the replacement for #4 in the trunk :-) never got around to doing the other front since the S40s are a PITA. The springs are very long and most stock 10 inch "death stick" spring compressors won't grab enough coils and I wound up using two compressors to do the job (not recommended) So take a look and if the spring is fairly packed (like on an 850) it won't be that hard, otherwise you may want to pull the strut out and have a shop with a pro tool do the bench work. Also do some research on the spring seat orientation for your model. Note that on the 850s it doesn't matter but on the S40s there's an alignment hole on the mount and strut that need to be lined up and rotated 20 degrees otherwise the strut will be offset by the mount.

I did this on our 2008 S60 just a few months ago. The right front seat was broken. Since the struts had 120k on them I just replaced both front struts with ones that were already assembled with new springs and all. Was an easy job to replace them and then took it for an alignment.

2002, and I’m just getting around to doing it. I’m just gonna do the one on passenger side, still need an alignment after? And I imagine I have to take off the wheel first

Which struts did you use? I will have to do it on my 2006 2.5T.

When I said something like that to a mechanic, he asked me: "when your shoe wears off, are you buying one new shoe, or a new pair? " And yes, you will have to take off the wheel. And more.
