S60 Dual Exhaust ???

2006 S60 2.5T FWD all stock (for now).

The single drivers side exhaust asymmetrical thing just isn't siting right with me.

I was hoping someone had information on what to do or where to get a dual exhaust set up.

Budget is all ways an issue, and I just haven't found much on line.

I would like a little more sound under acceleration to. (Any hints for that)?
I was wondering if the bottom of the bumper should be cut out (will it work/look OK)? Or if one must get a another style of bumper bottom.

Open to suggestions.
Thanks,
DMac

idk if the regular s60s have the same exhaust as the Rs, but a lot of R owners remove the center resonator and it sounds very nice under acceleration. I did it to mine and LOVE it.

Wow! One reply all in a matter of 3 days. (Thank you Ian).

Come on! Someones got to have some thoughts on a dual exhaust set up.

Links? Pictures? Directions?

I'll wait.

Heico was the only one that I knew of that was making a dual exhaust for the S60. I have provided a link. You pay alot for the name and the fact that its imported, so its not worth the price in my opinion. There is just not much of an option. Find someone local that will custom bend a system for the car. You will have to go somewhere to have it put in anyway, right?

Yeah a local shop is the only way to do it right and economically.

adub96 10-15-2009 11:56 AM

Yep local shop unless you spend a grand. Will you see any performance added, no. Also my thoughts are, it's a 5 cylinder car. there isn't two banks of pistons on the car. Dual exhaust on an S60 would be purely looks, if you like that look, go for it.

If I were you, I would save up and buy a car that is a little more tuning friendly and keep the S60 stock as a daily driver. Or, don't even bother half assing it and build a KPAX style car. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VhxcE-nPvg and hell, that car only has one muffler.

Holly cow... Over a grand, then it needs to be shipped. Thanks for the link - 1 Fast Ride.

Good thoughts from you other guys too... Thanks.

I guess I need re-think this one... I like the dual look, and would like a bit of sound enhancement. (Stock anything is... well stock)!

The K-Pax racer is pretty "Bad Ass" - It may only have one exhaust exit - But it is on the side - and that's, uh... Bad Ass!

Nothing for nothing, I have had V-8 Camaros and Mustangs in my younger days.
I just got out of a 528i that was in my opinion was pretty sporty for a 4 door. (4 door is one of the wife’s requirements - got to love being married, or in prison... what ever).

I always did something to every car I had to make it a little different than the guy next to me at the stop light.

If I go to a local shop any recommendations on what muffler to put it place of the stocker with?

Then the other problem would be no cut out on the passenger side bumper.
Can that be cut out and leave the tow eye cover left intact?
How bad will that look?

It’s definitely time to re-think things

Someone said something about taking out a resonator to increase the under throttle sound...
Any more input on that?

the resonator is a super easy remove - shouldnt be more than 50 bucks at your local exhaust shop. they will just cut it out and weld in a straight pipe.

I realy like the sound of this But will i see any problems if this is done.Like when i have to have the car inspected for a new sticker will this cause an emission problem? Or will the car throw a check engine code?

twowheelin 10-16-2009 06:46 PM

The resonator delete won't cause any issues with CELs as it's way after the cat O2 sensors. If you do decide to fab up a second exhaust for the other side you'll need to look closely at the mufflers and pipe fitment to make sure notihing is going to rub or rattle. I'm not sure many muffler shops are going to do a stellar job on a cutout for the bumper on the passenger side, so that's probably another fitment issue to be concerned with. I would prefer the look of dual pipes, but getting it just right without a new bumper will be challenging.

DMac 10-16-2009 07:48 PM

Ok, the resonator comes out, strait pipe goes in, no codes... More sound.
I like it.

DMac 10-16-2009 07:51 PM

New bumper

Where would one find such an animal?

Nataku 10-17-2009 05:01 PM

Will removing the resonator on a stock T5 affect the sound at idle and normal acceleration or just under hard acceleration? I'd like some sound when I put the pedal down but I don't want it sounding like a muscle car all the time.

DMac 10-17-2009 10:23 PM

Uh.. Huhhh... He said Muscle Car!

Google - Videos - Volvo S60 resonator delete

Even the S60R sounds fairly tame.

I don't know the differences with yours and my 2012, but mine had dual exhaust and is the 5 cyl. This can't be too hard.

The appearance it do able but the tone (noise) that you want is your idea.

You should be able to do this with OEM bolt in system.
Even the bumper is pre cutout.

A little paint and bob's your uncle!

RjsS60 04-15-2016 08:21 AM

....on my 02 S60 24t fwd there's no tuck up room because of the well where the spare tire sits. I'm still going to have them do duals but suggest oval pipe there. I just NEED HELP with a cutout template for the bumper lip.

RjsS60 08-27-2016 11:38 PM

Gas lines right there!!!

I see now that the gas filler lines are right above the area where the right side tip would end up. SO NOT SAFE!
