S60 rem
Both of my reverse lights were inoperable. I took my S60 to the dealer for it's normal maintenance. They tested it and said that it was a REM failure. Since then, all of the rear lights have stopped working - with the exception of the brake lights and blinker signal. I have read through what seems like a thousand forums - and i'm guessing it IS in fact the REM. Is this EASY to replace? Dealership wants over $1,000...I'm reading the REM is "plug and play" with no reload required (unlike the CEM)... And advice? I've found "used" REM's on ebay (from wrecked S60's) for under $200... while i've also found "new" REM's listed for around $500... Any advice would be MUCH appreciated!

Rem
Before I purchased a new REM, I would check all the fuses on it. There are a butt load on there. Might want to disconnect the battery before you go poking around on it. You aren't getting any codes thrown? If you have to change it, the junk yard for the same year and model may save you from having to buy the program for it. Good luck man.

Thanks. The dealership said there were no codes but due to the fact that bulbs weren't burnt out - and the likelihood that BOTH reverse lights were out...the traced it to the REM... Gotta admit, I haven't checked the fuses - i kinda assumed the dealership would've done that.... But that's a good call. I'm guessing that from your post, IF it's the REM, it's pretty easy to unplug the old one - and plug in the new one...assuming I can find one from the same model and year... and i'm reading that I need to match the part number - that same years can have different part numbers? Thanks for the help!!

Sorry forgot to ask- manual or automatic?

Automatic

Okay, unfortunately that REM doesn't use the external relay for the reverse lights that would fail on the older S60s. If fuse 1 is good and there is no power from pins B7 and B23 (blue) from the REM, the REM is the problem.
No guarantee a used one will work, there is a software download to program the new one. |
Thanks for the feedback... I'll check the fuses and go from there, I suppose!! :-)
