S60R AWD alignment

I am one month into owning my s60r. Unlike my Volvo’s of the past this is my first AWD. When I bought the car it pulled to the right hard enough I knew I was going to have to take it in to be aligned. The car was priced right so I took this into account when I purchased the car.

Since the Volvo shop is over an hour away I opted to take it to a local shop. This shop has the latest equipment for tire balancing and alignment. When they brought back the printout only three blocks were green and the rest were red.

This is where I screwed up when inspecting the car. With the alignment problem, the front tires were starting to cup bad. I hate it when someone put new tires on an old problems. Worse off, two tire were directional and two uni-directional.

The tech at this shop de-rimmed and swapped the two fronts (cupping) to the rear. He said this would extend the front tires that were cupped which still had lots of good tread. He moved the rear to the fronts which were almost new.

All four of the rims are bent to some degree but this is nothing new to me. All of my Volvos had bent rims. After a good balance the car drives very smooth. So $233 later all is good. I was hesitant about taking the care to a local shop, but in the end I’m happy.

Any thoughts on what the tech said?
