S60T5 2001 Transmission problem
My S60T5 2001 has 75000m
My transmission was working fine until yesterday morning. First cold day of the year! When starting the car, I get now a very rough shifting from 2 to 3 !!!!! The balance is ok....no slipping also! I check the oil level ok .The oil is a bit dirty ( I was thinking to replace it for a while now!!!). But Volvo said lifetime oil !!!!!!!!!!!!! Replace it only if you have problems!!!!!!!! Anyway it could not be that causing this problem so suddenly!!! I disconnected the battery for few hours and reconnect it back... (to try to check if it is not the TCM sofware causing that)... The 2 to 3 hard shifting still there but it seems to be a little bit softer.... Volvo dealer can only check my transmission software in 2 weeks.... So , I need your expertise!!!!!!!!!! Thanks in advance |
RE: S60T5 2001 Transmission problem
Do a tranny flush before anything! I would highly recommend using a quality synthetic which will help your tranny out greatly. As for lifetime fluid? thats total BS in every which way!
A word to the wise, stay FAR away from the dealer unless you are buying parts are have free warranty work to be done. |
RE: S60T5 2001 Transmission problem
Thanks to all of you for your help...... My transmission serial number start with 01E..... I'd just finish my flush..... It improves a bit (all is smoother) but I still get the 2-3 non-smooth shifting ! Now my last chance will be a software upgrade!! Do you think I could add something in the oil also? [/align] Top |
RE: S60T5 2001 Transmission problem
What did you use for fluid and how did you do the flush?

RE: S60T5 2001 Transmission problem
After having read a lot of discussion about Volvo ATF oil...I have used 12 liters of Toyota T4...(It's a Aisin Warner tranny ,made by Toyota!!).
I undo the drain plug, about 3 liters of very dirty oil dropped..Then I put it back , disconnected the upper return cooler line and ..started about 5 times the engine ,to evacuate about 1.5 liters of old and brown atf each time while I was pooring the exact same amount of atf through the dipstick of new oil. At the end the oil was red and very clean! I just have to check exactly now my oil level....(when cold and hot) |
RE: S60T5 2001 Transmission problem
I would still flush it out and use synthetic as it tends to shift smoother and keep the tranny cooler... just my opinion though.
