Default Slight lurch at dead stop while in Drive

Hi,

'02 S6O with 191K on it. Runs and goes fine. Just got the car and have done a ton of little things to it including the DIM. After car has been run for a few minutes it will lurch a bit after you have come to a complete stop. feels like its trying to down shift or a joint is slipping or something like that. ONLY in Drive with the brakes applied to keep the wheels at a standstill. Now funny thing is it does it ALL the time except for the other day I did 100 mile trip and the issue never arose. I just replaced the right front drive shaft but not the left. Does this sound more like Computer/Tranny issue or CV Joint axle issue? Or something else? Thanks!!

Does it lurch when coming to a stop or when you go to leave a stop or just while you are sitting with your foot on the brake? Is the idle speed changing at all?

Only after coming to a complete stop with your foot on the brake. Idle does not change and if you put it in neutral or park it does not happen. Tires have to completely stop.

Also the severity of lurch varies from very slight to a pretty good jerk.

Just to see if it is the trans, try putting it in neutral when coming to a stop (yeah i know all laws say don't do that but whatever). Is the idle high when you stop? I'm just thinking things off the top of my head. These symptoms seem familiar but can't quite remember....

It definitely is not a CV joint/axle issue. Sounds like a trans/sensor issue.

I have done the neutral thing. I've started doing it every time I stop to keep it from lurching. No change to idle at all. Everything seems perfectly normal except this little hiccup when you stop. Also, sometimes it will only happen once and other times a couple to 3 times.

Possible ABS sensor? Car comes to complete stop and with brakes locked and it tricks the sensor? Just a thought. Seems like if it were tranny issue I would be getting a code.

Did you guys ever figure out the issue for the lurching after coming to a dead stop? We are having the same problem with our 02 s60.

I don't know a definite answer but i would check your transmission and abs system for any possible issues.
