Starter Issue 2002 s60 - NEW OWNER
Hello! I've never previously owned a Volvo but just purchased one from my neighbor and got it completely serviced. It runs great! I just have a silly question as I have been having problems recently with it starting. 2 weeks ago, when I started the car it made a clicking sound. I automatically assumed it was the battery, I got it jumped and got the battery checked out. It was all good and didnt need to be replaced. A couple weeks later, the same clicking happened but I waited and tried again and it started. Same thing just happened again today. (no jump needed last two times).
I'm worried I am not turning off the lights??? I feel like they stay on but I'm not familiar with the electrical of a Volvo. I have attached a photo.
Can someone help? Thanks a bunch!

Not sure of the ask about the headlight switch. Do the lights stay on for the full duration after you turn off the key? For your model the headlights will turn off with the key even if you leave in the on position (o = off). If your model has the daytime running lights option they will only come on with the key in position 2. You can find the owners manual online if you don't have a copy in the glovebox. http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/...0/02s60_03.htm
Sounds like you have a battery drain problem or a battery cable issue. Typically this could be a courtesy light (vanity, glove box etc) or something else that's powered (radio, amp, antenna). You'd need to have a multi-meter and pull fuses to see which is drawing current with the key off. It may also help to clean up the battery cables (just have the radio code handy if yours has the anti-theft feature). After that you may need to have the charging system tested and the battery - as the person who tested the battery may have gotten it wrong.
