Surging on acceleration

Surging on acceleration
Hi, I'm new to this forum but hoping you can help?
I have a 2002 S60 2.0T SE that has done 136000 miles.
It has always had a slight surging problem since I bought it two years ago at 87000 miles, which occurred at 3000rpm and cleared after 3500rpm.
In the last year it surges on acceleration from 2000rpm onwards and only clears after 5000rpm.
It feels like extreme turbo lag, like the turbo is trying to work but only being allowed to for a split second.
It has been serviced recently with plugs, air filter, fuel filter, oil change, but to no avail.
A friend suggested there may be contaminated fuel but it seems too particular for that.
Would appreciate any suggestions.
Many thanks.
On a separate note, a post regarding the "service overdue" message - using the ignition key and odometer stick was spot on and cleared the message immediately. Thanks for that!!

RE: Surging on acceleration
Doubt that scanner would work. Volvo's are fussy and general code readers from Autozone frequently don't get all the codes read and can't clear them either.
You car says 2.0 S60 turbo. Which one is it actually. 2.4. or 2.5?
After you have codes read properly, see if any ETM type codes come up. Extended warrany until 200K miles I believe. They can cause spiking problems but it's mostly idle with them. You have some sort of boost problem possibly.
