Are there usual suspects for battery drain
 

I don't think the battery is the problem but it could be?

About 1.5 years ago I had the no-start corrosion at the starter situation fixed.

Yesterday I removed the positive wires at fuse box and it was fairly clean. I cleaned it a bit more.

I'm wondering if there is corrosion again at the starter. I think it is covered by a box and I can't seem to see how top open the cover.

With my tester on the car is charging. Turned the car off and I could watch the voltage dropping. After cleaning the wire at the fuse box and wiggling the cover at the starter the voltage didn't drop as fast.

In the morning the car barely had enough remaining energy to start.

When did car batteries get so expensive and from what I read they have less lead in them and don't last as long.

Any ideas?

you may need to pop fuses and measure current draw to see what may be leaking current. Some of the possible causes are thinks like vanity lights staying on (ie glovebox etc). I actually had a friend's car where the cause was an orange peel that landed in the 12V lighter outlet - just enough to create a circuit.

Well I charged the battery and took it to Advanced Auto for a test. The guy said it is only showing 350 CCA. How about I put it on our charger for the night and see what happens. I returned to the store this morning, they put it on the tester and the CCA is about 700. I went home, installed the battery and it has been in all day. I checked the battery and it is showing 12.54 after sitting around.



The car was not driven much in the past months and maybe the battery just needed a long, slow charge.

We'll see ????

You can measure the current draw with the car off/key out (have your radio code handy) between the battery and positive cable to see if it draws more than say .02A (to power the clock and other active devices).

If you don't drive the car that often I would put it on the lowest setting on your charger. On modern cars there's always some draw on the batteries .

The charge at the part shop did the trick.

Tomorrow I am driving the car on a 500 mile trip. I'll see if the battery comes back to life.
