Unable to read CEL code on 2006 S60

I recently bought an '06 S60 T5 (9/1/08) with 49,100 miles. I did the first oil change on it at 3,100 miles (52,200)Sunday night. Drove the car to work Monday morning (20 miles) had the code when I started it to come home.
-I friend tried to scan the code with his hand scanner. Got an error.
-Advance Auto tried to scan the code and got an error.
-Took it to an Indy Volvo shop and he was able to readthe identity of the car but not get any code information. Stated his scanner went up to 2004 but had read a 2005 last week.
Anyone been down this path?
Am I now at the mercy of the dealer?
I'm having nightmares that I did something during the oil change that caused the code. I used a torque wrench and looked up the specs for the filter housing and drain plug. Unless my wrench is really inaccurate I felt pretty good about that. Checked the level and it was in the middle of the range on the dipstick. Haven't seen any leaks and engine seems to be running the same as before the CEL came on.
Ideas, thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks.
