Upper engine mount question.

So I have an '01 S60 T5 and am going to replace the upper engine mount. According to IPD, the "square style" mount is for the 2005-2007 5 cylinder engines. Mine is an '01, but I have this mount. I have no idea if this is correct or not. Is there a difference in performance between the square style and the round poly mount from IPD? If so, what would have to be done to get the round poly mount? From what I've seen, the aluminum mount holder looks the same for both.

Round Poly mount from IPD:

Square mount from IPD:

30680770E Engine Mount --- Volvo Parts, Accessories and Performance Specialists Since 1963

Round round mount was probably replaced sometime through '05-'07. Dealers did this all the time to update the mount when the round one went bad.

The square bushing iPd sells is an OEM replacement, and is a direct fit for the mount you have on your car.

The round bushing is a lot stiffer and does not flex as much as the square bushing. To do the round bushing you'll also need to replace the mount to a round style one. You can get one from any dealer and iPd usually sells them too for pretty cheap.

Aaah - so the car originally came with a round mount and this was replaced at some point at the dealer with the square one when the original went bad?

Which would you recommend?

Also, is there a sure way to tell when they need to be replaced. There is a slight "clunk" when I step on/off the throttle and throttle response isn't as quick as I think it could be. I know these could be signs that it needs replacement

"Clunk" is most likely the lower (transmission) mount. These go as quickly as the top mounts if not more. VERY easy to change.

Yeah, I did that already. Also did the B4 Servo cover and did the trans fluid drain/fill 3 times. Pretty sure my software has the latest update but not 100% sure. Someone told me they had the same issue and they had the upper engine mount replaced which took care of the issue.

I like the round polly mount personally. It's a lot stiffer then the OEM bushing. Which is what I was looking for with all the other suspension mods on the car. It does cause some slight vibration at idle but not enough to bother me or even my GF.
