To say that you have a problem is an understatement. Those don't look like stock parts. When you did the struts yourself, did you save any of the original pieces or was it pretty much like that before you started?
The sleeves that you show look like remnants of the old spring seats. The spring seat is that hard rubber black part. When you get serious failure of that part the steel tube will separate from the rubber and your suspension will feel squishy and knock a lot from the movement. Did you replace the spring seats when you did your struts. If the sleeves are from the spring seats and you put them back in with that kind of damage, that is your problem right there. Order new spring seats immediately.

You NEVER, EVER replace struts without replacing the spring seats (That's what these strut mount rubbers are called)
You only use either OEM Volvo XC90 spring seats or IPD HD spring seats, all others are junk
