Ok... I can understand that Volvo in alot of instances is nota popular power machine... or really even sports machine... but i have a vision for the s60... it could look so tight... please someone read and respond or join volvo bc Id like to share my ideas to others... out

 

Have you test driven the new S60's? They are a very nice driving car. The back seat setup is a little bit tight for getting out though. I didn't have the pleasure of trying a 2004 S60 T5 but if they drive like they look they are already pretty tight.

 

I just bought the S60 T5 w/sport package. The 17" wheels makes it ride like it is on rails!

 

The s60 and s40 are very f**kin Hot cars. They ride beautifully and can be well modified. Besides the fact that they are amazing cars when you see a hooked up one on the road its a very rare things to see and is just mind blowing. I put a body kit on my 94 850 Turbo wagon and people just Flip when they see it.</P>

i got a kit on my 96 850...with a custom grill alessio 18 inch rims tint thats 35% european clear corners...not done with it though...it does turn heAds..i dont kno why people dont think much of VoLvO...i love the S60's and the S40's they look nice. Volvo has been changin the look to more of a box type with the wheel pushed up to the front makin more like a bMw but if u look around evryone has a bMw and volvo sales went up 22% in 2003. They should be gettin a lot more customers with the new S40 coming out..

 

volvos arent very popluar in the usdm, but in europe alot of show cars and race cars are there... makes me wish i could get up and move :P

 

Volvos are actually pretty popular and are viewed as performance machines. The amount of posters here is not a very accurate indication of how many Volvo enthusiasts there are out there. I agree though, Volvo is changing its image. They started with the 95 850 T5-R with 240 HP and have kept improving on it with the S60 and new S40 platforms. If you want to feel Volvo performance, test drive the S60R, now that is a machine!!

 

The new 2004 1/2 is marketed towards the 18-35 year range and there is going to be an entire book full of accessories avalible for it.I also agree when volvos are modified they are Sweet looking and can be made to perform to compare to most inports are domestic cars.

I agree Sevvy!!! I just got 2016 S60 T5 and I think it's one of the sharpest cars I've seen. Interesting in further mods but don't know quite where to go next. Used to working on a 16 yr old Saab 9-3 but eh S60 already good right out the gate.

 

I'm thinking the board needs to have awards for comments added to the oldest thread. Sevvy almost waited 15 years to comment. As to your question of what to do to a 2016... a few thoughts. First is after market mods are harder to find for the newer models as the ECU programs are getting more complex. I'd probably start with looking at the handling first - wheels/tires? springs/struts? swaybar/bushings? Performance - see if there's any Polestar options for your model. Aftermarket parts would include exhaust, intake, ECU tune are the standard fare but again options may be limited vs say an older S60 T5. You can also look to swap out the turbo. Not sure if the 2016s still run the Mitsubishi turbos but you may be able to find an upgrade to add pumping capacity (even without adding boost, this will improve response). Last option is to focus on comfort items - audio system upgrades etc. For me, if I'm going to mod out a car, I'd start with a mid 00 model such as a 06 to 10 model year. Plenty of parts, base car pricing is under 10K leaving room for lots of add ons.

 

That's the only thing that disappointed me with the Volvo was that there was little documentation on the car. With the 2003 Saab there was a exhaustive owners manual with 10 pages of specifications on engine, tires, fuses etc. I've looked for the auto store manuals. Could you recommend a good reference manual for those of use that might work on our own car at some point?
