1998 S70, Fuel Problem
I own a 1998 S70 and am new to Volvo Forum. Vehicle just stopped running, believed it was a fuel pump problem. Fuel pump replaced (used fuel pump), vehicle will run while in Park, neutral, or reverse? Place it in drive, vehicle quits (blows fuel injector fuse only?) Have tried 30amp fuse, blows it as well?

Non Turbo and 10Amp fuse is blowing. No relays have been bypassed. Only work done was replace fuel pump. Runs fine until you put it in drive?

Responding to question asking for fuse number. It is #2 10AMP Injectors.
Thanks, |

Thanks, The fuel injection fuse is referred to as #11 in both manuals; so i was starting to think you were confused but then i went out to my S70 and popped the Relay/Main Fuse Box and fuse 11 is the 2nd one from the front, but better yet, on the Relay/Main Fuse Box cover it's labeled as fuse #2! So someone f***** up the documentation on that one. Back to your problem; am assuming you have 20 valve 168 HP NA engine, which means you don't have the Fenix fuel injection system. With that assumption, and according to my shop manual you have the following being fed by that fuse:

1998 S70 Fuel Problem
Did as you suggested with the MAF sensor. No change, continues to blow fuse when placed in drive. Note* I own the vehicle but I'm not doing the work. Shop doesn't work on a lot of Volvo's. This issue has everyone I've talked to "stumped"! I do appreciate your assistance.

If it were me I would unplug the other items, one at a time, to see if that changes anything. BTW; this failure mode doesn't make much sense; i.e. why does putting it in drive cause an overload on any of these circuits? I would be more inclined to look for a wire harness that's worn through sitting on top of the shifter mechanism. |
