ac problem
 

I have a 98 S70 and had it for just over a year. The AC has never worked and my mechanic told me last year that there was a large hole in one the of hoses (I believe it's the compressor to condenser one). Looked like the engine fan came in contact with it and shredded it. Fixing that hose would be the obvious solution. The problem is, I'm wondering if I should even bother spending the 82 dollars and then getting it charged when those evaporators always fail. I haven't had the car long enough to know if that ever worked. Seems like I'll be opening a can of worms with that one. Anyone have any suggestions?

Evaps fail, all it is is a large coil like the condenser. Evap on the inside condenser on the radiator front side. You need to evacuate the system, moisture will be in all the nooks and crannies. I have an EPA license for Freon so this is easy stuff for me.

Yeah, it'll cost you, and alot more than the 80 odd bucks - but do you really want to go around w/o air conditioning all summer?

FWIW, my 98's system is original (I did add freon last year) and, living in Texas, the thing gets alot of use. Searching for problems doesn't turn up too much really - clutchs, the control board, but overall they look dependible.

I`ve got a 2000 S70 SE that has been leaking AC refridgerant for the last 3 years. I would just recharge the AC at the beginning of the summer and it would last thru the summer.

Not this year .... recharged it and a week later was gone. Took it to my guy and he put a fluid in that would see where the leak was when gone over w/ a green light.

Needed a new compressor and reciever dryer tank. $684 later ( parts & labor ) it`s like brand new.

Living in New England I had to have it.
