Body Work on 98 Volvo worth it?

I have a '98 Volvo S70. It still runs great even at 193K miles. Can't really afford a new car, so was just planning on driving this one until it completely breaks down.

Unfortunately yesterday I was changing lanes and didn't see someone in the lane and got my passenger side door sideswiped. Left a big dent in the right passenger door (part of which I managed to get out) but the majority of it is on the lower part of the door.

Took it to a body shop today and the dent guy said he couldn't do anything because the majority of the dent lies exactly where the support beam runs through the door. I appreciate his honesty, but not exactly what I wanted to hear.

From same accident, there are also scrapes and scratches above the tire. Apparently to do the work on those and as much of the dent that they can, it would be $900.

My car isn't even worth that much, so I'm hesitant to do it. What do you think? Is it worth it?

I'm likely the only one to ever drive this car so I guess it doesn't matter if I get it fixed or not, but there's still the sense of duty or pride, so it doesn't look like a complete POS and maybe I could get $500 out of it someday.

Might be better to get a used door. You might even find one the same color.

I agree. I wonder what they charge for a door at pull-a-part.

Best way to search local yards is via car-parts.com - You can match year/quality/colors as well. Should be an easy find in the $150 to 200 range.

$46.50 at pull-a-part, ha ha. I figured it'd be $25. Some of their stuff is comically cheap, and that is the sort of junkyard where currently there are a lot of 98-2000 70's.

Leave it. You'll gonna need the money for the insurance increase.
