A/C not blowing towards windshield

I have an issue where my A/C is working fine, it's blowing warm air fairly well, but on "windshield" setting (i don't know what to call it) it starts blowing full speed but no air is coming out from the front AC grill. This is an issue in this cold winter where windshield is frosting / fogging badly on the inside.

Any help appreciated.

Attached a very good ,pdf file to troubleshoot the system. While it says it is for a 95 Volvo 850, the system is the same.

Volvos control the HVAC through a set of blend doors, each with its own actuator motor. which shunt the air through the heater core or evaporator and out through the desired set of vents. Normally if one of the motors goes bad or out of sync you'll see fault codes (ie blinking AC/REC lights). A more common problem when there's no fault code is that the motor has become disconnected from the door. If you don't feel enough air flow through any of the vent paths, then you may have an issue with the air intake - so it's a good time to check the cabin air filter and the blower. Don't be surprised if you find a mouse or chipmunk nest in there etc. You didn't mention if the fan works on all speeds - so I'm assuming that the blower itself is ok.

Hi mt6127, thanks for the response. All the other vents work besides the one under the windshield. I changed my cabin air filter a couple months back and it was fairly clean so that should not be the cause. Now that you mention about the error codes for A/C, I realized that, yes, there is a blinking light in the AC controls whenever I turn on the car/power. Does this seem like one of the motors is bad? And do you have experience or links on how to fix/replace the windshield motor or how demanding is it skillwise/toolwise?

The first step would be to check the codes stored - that may point you in the right direction. I have replaced several damper motors over the years and depending on which one it is - some are easier to get to than others. The pdf file that's in an earlier post has all the information you would need to solve your problem -
