A/C not working

Hi. I have a 1998 Volvo S70 with around 119k miles on it. My A/C stopped being cold- when I turn the A/C on the fan kicks in, but doesn't blow cold air. I bought a freon kit at the auto store to refill the unit but it only blows cold air for a moment. Any idea on what may be going on?

How much freon did you put in?
The car holds 1.6 LBS.
Also is it leaking right back out when you put it in?
