Code P0103 mystery
 

Recently had a breakdown. S70 (non-turbo) cut off and would not restart. Took to local (non-volvo) shop for repair. They replaced bad coil, ignition wires. Still would'nt start. they got code P0102. They replaced mass airflow sensor. Ran OK for about a day then check engine light came back on. Shop guy read code P0103 (mass airflow sensor high input). However, he could not figure out anything to do to correct problem. He checked electrical connections and was confused by a 7 ohm resistance when checking ground wire thru the battery. I don't understand this. However, car would run, but I don't trust it.

Read somewhere on internet about a problem with bad air box thermostat, which would cause heated air from manifold stove to continuously come in thru the intake, and cause problems with the mass air flow sensor, and fuel mixture. I checked this thermostat, and it appears to be broken. The little stem that should be sticking out from it is missing.

Could this be my problem, and the reason I get this P0103 code? I am no mechanic but I would rather try something cheap than to spend more big money on new parts.

I have never seen that being broke cause a problem.
do you live in a northern or southern climate?

So once he installs the MAF sensor, the car will start. But now MAF is tripping another CEL.
Im "Assuming" 0102 and 0103 are a system related CEL problem. I also wonder why an ignition coil, and ignition wires were changed before that? "Shotgunning" is a trouble shooting procedure, but is not cheap. lolAnyways, I would highly suspect a bad connector on wire harness, a bad wire off the sensor, or yourguy has avoltmeter with a crappy calibration. Maybe something as simple as reconnecting sensor, look for bent pins too. GL
