Considering 1999 S70 T5 for $6,700 - help please!
 

I am seriously considering a 99 S70 T5 w/ 93k miles (asking $6,700) and I have a couple of questions. The car is in quite nice shape(8.5 out of 10)and drives straight, smooth and fast.

First, the car has not had its 90k service and I understand from a search of the forum that it is usually about $600 for the service. Prior to the 90k, the book had been stamped by the local dealer more or less on time, but the owner decided that he would not shell out the expense since he was planning to sell the car anyway. Obviously it is a pretty big concern of mine since on top of the $600 could come a laundry list of other items needing replacement. I suppose that the best solution if for me to have the car inspected by an independent shop, but if anyone else has a suggestion as to how to proceed I would appreciate it.

Second, I havenoticed on several 98s and 99s that the driver side window switches and mirror toggle has become quite gummy and sticky. Are there any solutions to this or are they easy to replace?

Have it inspected.

The switches are easy to replace. Pretty pricey but easy to swap out. They all get like that.

Since this car above is priced relatively high to start and will require about $1,300 worth of maintenance between the 90k service and timing belt / water pump replacement, I'm now considering other cars before getting an inspection.

The sad fact is that S70 T5's are pretty rare, so what is your opinion of picking up a nicer '98 GLT and then doing an IPD / exhaust upgrade to bring its performance on par with the T5? I already have an eye on a CHERRY GLT with 90k for $6,500 that HAS had the major service and timing belt done. Assuming the engine performance is similar, what would I be missing by going this route, if anything?
