Coolant flush

How easy is it to perform a coolant flush on a 99 s70? The manual shows the drain cock, but what else do i need to make sure i do when i do this? What kind of coolant is best for this vehicle, and how much?

You could back- flush the system with a heater hose tee, but I don't really recommend it. Open the drain cock and coolant tank cap, open the engine block drain, and allow all coolant to drain out. Then, close the block drain plug, and start filling the system with distilled water. Start the engine, and run it until the water coming out of the drain cock is pretty clear. Keep the tank filled with distilled water. When the water runs clear, shut off the engine and let the water finish draining. Then, close the drain cock and add a good quality extended- life coolant (most coolants are extended life these days) to the tank- add 3.7 quarts, which is 1/2 the system capacity. (because the block and heater core are still full of water, this ensures a 50- 50 mixture) Finish filling with water, then run the engine until it reaches operating temperature. Shut it off and allow it to cool, then top off the tank with distilled water again (This step is to get rid of any air in the system.) Then, in the future, if you need to add coolant, just add a 50-50 mixture of the same coolant and distilled water.

Which engine block drain are you talking about? Overall that sounds pretty simple, thanks.
