Dreaded Tensioner...
Hello,
Excuse me if this issue has been addressed, but I just could not find it in the S70 threads. 1998 S70 T5. Manual Timing Tensioner exploded somewhere en-route my 40 mile freeway commute (only noticed the flapping/banging when at the offramp). Replaced tensioner. Struggled with it, but believe I have aligned the crank & cam markings and adjusted everything correctly. Now, I am getting a P0300 (multiple cylinder misfire), P0301 (cylinder 1 mis) & P0302 (cylinder 2 mis). Obviously rough idle. My fear is an internal issue (rod, etc.) - but curious that only two cylinders are missing after multiple clears/restarts. Any guidance for a poor woodworker out of his element? |
I would do a compression test. That will tell you if you have any bent valves.

You don't have to test at warm temps. You're looking for even pressures across the board with no more than 10% variance. Give each cylinder a slow 5 count when cranking with throttle wide open. You don't want to run it when testing.
