Hood Latch Adjustment Question

Yesterday I adjusted the driver's side hood latch so that it no longer sticks when the release handle is pulled. Additionally, both sides of the hood at the latch attachment points are a little loose and move when that part of the hood is pressed down. I did this by loosening the latch mechanism bolts and lowering it about a quarter inch. It worked great but with a problem. The alignment of the hood with respect to the fender was out of whack. The hood also touches the headlight with this adjustment.

It appears I also need to increase the thickness of the square rubber bumpers that are mounted on the underside of the hood that provide pressure against the latches when the hood is closed. I'm guessing that the hood has bent over the years causing this condition.

A search on this site did not reveal anything on this topic. Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Many thanks,

-Paul

Hey Paul, that does suck. I have been looking at that situation with another guy's S70. On his car the plastic cowl that goes across the front of the car is not secure, thus not putting the proper pressure on the hood. You will likely have to adjust that to fix your problem.

Not meaning to high jack thread but is there a latch of some sort that is suppose to be in the grille to lift the hood. I mean I pop the hood and it stays there not moving unless I get some one to go lift it. The guy I bought it from has a wire hanger rig to get the latch undone after the hood is popped. I may have a missing latch and needing adjustment.

I was wondering if the cowl could be adjusted but I couldn't see how to do that. My Chiltons states that the rubber bumpers should be adjusted to correct hood height.

How do you adjust the cowl to correct hood height?

Thank you,

Paul
