Interesting start up noise.

Hey guys,
Long time no talk. So here's the issue I am currently facing with my 1998 s70 t5. It has about 110k miles on it right now. Every time I start the car after it has been parked for a while, a weird whirring/motor noise comes on. It is extremely loud and comes from the front driver side. I opened the hood to check on it the other day and noticed it seemed to be coming from underneath or around the battery. Its a loud sound that only lasts 10-30 seconds and stops, it comes usually after just starting the car, is temperature independent.

I don't think it has anything to do with the heating or cooling, because it doesn't matter if I have the auto air, air off, or ac on or off. Also I don't think it has to do with the starter, because it does it after the car has been started.

Sounds like the air pump. It is supposed to come on when the car is cold but yours might be going bad and it is alot louder than normal.

Is the air pump located underneath the battery and is it covered from the bottom by a guard?

Yes it is under the battery tray.
If your car still have the lower air dam then yes it is covered by it.

I have the same issue on 2000 S70 GLT SE and i think this sound is becauseyour AC Motor is Running Out of oil. Does AC Work Correctly ?
