Is this a job I can do?(valves)
 

Hey there guys.
I hope you guys can help me forward, whoever has done this before. I have a 99 S70 T5, and my mechanic says that one of my exhaust valves is bad in cylinder 2 after he did some testing. He hasn't started on it for a month now so the car is just sitting in the cold which I despise.

Now, he has the parts but I need to know if I can do this job myself.
Has anyone done this or has a procedure on it with all the nitty gritty of it ?ie: what tools I need, exactly what I need to take out and what to watch out for, everything.

Pretty much all the details on the tools, pastes/glues, gaskets, valves, and valve seals that I would need.
Is this a hell of a job, is it a mess to do myself in an underground parking spot ?
I really want to attempt this on my own I have a heated underground spot so space/light wise I think I'd be fine.

Any advice is appreciated.

There is a series of videos on this. Watch all four and then decide if you want to try it.
While not specific to your problem, this is nearly the same process you would have to go thru. Re-assembly is not shown in these videos though. Which involves a lot of specific procedures and processes.

Here is my play by play on my head removal which is going to be about the same. Just a little different with the timing and VVT that your car has.

You can remove the head and send it to a head shop to have the vale and stem seals done. The head shop will check the head out real good, lap the vales, install the valve stem seals, clean it up, etc. The shop cost would be around $400.

If you do it all yourself you'll likely spend about $200 on tools. The one that helps you get the valve keepers loose will run about $100 by itself.

Thank you guys I will see if I am one to attack this problem on my own or not. It might be worth it to let the mechanic do it those costs seem not too much lower than what my mechanic told me he'd do it for.

Cost me $850 to do it myself with the shop doing the head for $435.
