looking to buy s70 what should i look out for?
hello i would like to buy a 1998 volvo s70 5 speed that is being sold.
1.How often should i change the timing belt on these puppies 2. How much mpg does the volvo s70 get 3. Any factory defects or recalls I should be aware of. 4. Are these cars s70 reliable thanks for your advice. kind regards jorge |
timing belt needs replacing every 80-90k
depending on how the car is tuned, you can probably get 18miles to a gallon on average city driving and 27 highway with a good tune up and injector cleaning. the pcv needs to be checked to. warm up the car to normal operating temp and remove the oil dipstick. if you see white smoke coming out from the dipstick how, then pcv needs replacing. l own an 850 and it has been very reliable. if you are willing to do repairs yourself you will save alot of money.but just to let know if you dont know how to turn a wrench on simple repairs on cars then turn to other manufactures because these mechanics tend to charge more on volvos. my friend owns an s70 and it has been very reliable.l mean very liable.l do all his maintenance for him.it would be a good idea to find a good trustable volvo mechanic. |
thanks
I live in nicaragua and mechanics are not that expensive at all. A tie rod change is like 15 usd labor. I donīt know much about fixing cars however I have done basic stuff like oil changes and air filter changes. i have heard of some people getting 30 mpg with the s70. is this possible? Does the 98 have the electronic throttle? i hear these can give trouble.
thanks |

30 mpg - downhill in nuetral
|
30 mpg in neutral
so a 98 s70 naturally aspirated 5 speed manual transmssion can get 30 mpg only in downhill in neutral?
|
does a volvo s70 98 manual transmission get 30mpg easily?
|
I get about 19 average (mostly city) and about 26 highway. I have a bit of a lead foot, so there's that.

Are you the same guy that asked people to sell you on buying a Volvo?
