No, I didn't know about the blown cylinder before I bought it. I'm really hoping, after all is said and done, that with regular maintenance (checking the oil, and keeping it changed) will keep it running for a couple of years. If the money is right, or if I can find someone to do it at a reasonable price, I'll have it taken care of. One mechanic told me it would be about $1200 just to take to cover off, NOT including the boring, seals, and gaskets.

The compression test shows the other 4 cylinders are fine. The third cylinder is not getting more than 12 psi or so. I've had the spark plugs changed, and done most of the work for the preventative maintenance so far. I drive it about 50 miles a day to and from work every day, and it is a little slow on acceleration, but, even at that, I'm don't dog the car at all. I'll take it up to about 80 on the interstate, and it rides pretty smooth. There is a vibration (not extremely violent, but, it concerns me) between 55-60mph. I only paid about $2100 for it, and with the timing assembly, alternator, battery, and plugs, I've put about $1000 in the basic needed repairs.

Something else came up today I could use some advice on: Yesterday, I turned on the AC (which was working fine before) and one of the vents was blowing hot air while the other was blowing cold. I turned the AC off, and hot air continued to blow....this sounds like some kind of leak in the AC system????

Again, I'm new to this model of car, and understand BASIC mechanics. I can do a few minor repairs, but, when it comes down to getting into brakes and major parts, I don't trust myself to that much. All input is appreciated.

Sorry, but putting any money into a car with a cylinder with 12 psi compression is a waste.

I doubt it needs any boring. Probably a valve issue.

Just read all your posts, honestly I agree with ES6T. You have got to get that engine situation sorted out. Either you open it up and fix it( which will cost a lot of money unless you look at it and fix yourself) or go to a junkyard and swap for a used engine in good condition. There are some really good right ups out there on our engines such as a head gasket resealing (which pretty much cover the whole top-end of the engine).

There is no point working on anything else when you have such a major expense (and something so important) already right in front of you.

You need to do some thinking.
