Default driver door "open holder" broken?

I don't know what this thing is called, the thing that hold the door open for you in two different spots. I'm sure it has to do with the flat bumpy piece that goes into the door at the upper jamb and is attached to the frame. That piece is still attached, but the stops don't work anymore. This was precipitated by a very loud metallic sound when I opened the door a few days ago. Since then I have had the door bang into my shin a couple of times, so I would like to fix it. After the loud sound, the next time I drove the car something metal fell down inside it. I am guessing that it's a spring that either got dislodged or broke, that pushes against that lever, maybe with a roller, inside the door. I've never had the door panel off, and the ALL DATA subscription is useless for this. Maybe if I knew the official Volvo name for this thing it would help. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob

It's called a Door Check and they fail (usually from not lubing it 2-3 times a yearand it becoming rusted)
If it pulled out of the body door jamb, expect to have to weld it back in (body shop)
If not, it's a pretty easy replacement.
get a flashlight and look at the inside (to the body) attachment and see if it's in one piece

Default door check

it's still attached to the frame. So do I take the door panel off and then what? Seems like a lot of metal fell down inside the door.
Thanks for your help,
Bpb

Well yeah to get all the broken stuff out of there.
I would suggest you also remove the other door panel to see how it's attached and use that as a guide when you try to replace the broken one

On the s70 the door check is attached with a ball joint at the frame, and goes into the door for the check operation, so there is no frame hole to inspect.
Thanks,

Did I say frame hole anywhere?
(But if it ripped out of the door frame there would be a hole in the jamb left over!)

Oh yeah, I see now what you meant. I'll post what I find in there when I get the panel off. Probably be a while, just had a spinal fusion and I'm not cleared for that kind of stuff yet. I appreciate your help.
