Default Problems with headlights and dashlight

Hi Everybody,

I am the proud owner of an 1998 S70 T5 but recently I had some problems with the headlights and dashlights.

When the car does not have the engine running yet the headlights and dash lights works just fine. When I start the car the headlights and dash light does not come on.

If I turn the lights **** to position 2 = position lights then they work fine and also the dash when the car is running. The i turn the lights **** to position 3 = no headlights or dash light.

I discovered that when I gently hit the steering housing behind the steering wheel the dash light and headlight will come back on.

Does anyone have an idea on what can cause this?

Hope you can help me out guys!

Thanks!

Michael

Headlight switch. pull it out - leaving the wires attached, yol'll have about an inch of "play" - and tap it to see if it replicates the tapping on the steering column.

No luck unfortunately. It's only when I tap the housing on the top or below. Just removed the top housing and tried to gently tap the different wireasemblys which were visible but no luck.

You're right! It was the innerpart of the key mechanism. Thanks!

Hmm what to do from here. Replace the part or can you normally fix it?

Hey, so I own a 1990 volvo 240. I recently found out that my headlights don't work. I looked at the bulbs, fuses, relay works just fine, and even got a new switch and none of that works. I turn the headlights to the on position and the tail lights and turn signal lights turn on EXCEPT the headlights themselves. Does any one have any idea what's wrong?
