Default Radio Static

I have a 1999 S70. When I use the AM radio I get strong static that makes it very hard to hear what is on the station. It comes and goes with no pattern that I can see. The static is also in rythm with the engine, as I speed up it gets faster and when I slow down it gets slower. It sounds like an engine on a model airplane. Sometimes it stops when I step on the brake. The FM is OK.

I moved this here because this is the s70 forum.

This could also be posted in the Audio forum, but please keep it here.

Thanks

Default RE: Radio Static

I have the same problem with mine but as I get closer to the station source it clears up. However the S70 will have static when my other cars won't so I know its AM reception is below average. I read somewhere, maybe even in this forum, that cleaning the antenna with something like WD-40 will help. I did it and got marginal improvement. Lastly, I have noticed that weather will impact the reception. At times any electrical impulse, even when I step on the brakes will be heard through my radio when on AM.

Like you my FM has none of these symptoms. Wish I had an answer because I am a sports talk radio junkie so my radio is always on AM and sometimes it just plain out stinks.
