Replacing the light bulbs on the dash and gear shift

I have a 1998 S70 with the bulbs out up on the dash near the window, it's for the alarm. And the bulb that makes the gears light up on the shifter. Anyone know how to get into these areas? I don't see anything in the manual.

Thanks!

I have the same problem

I would not be so quick to think that it is the bulb that's broken , more than likely it is a fuse that's gone. The light on my gear shift does not light up but also the light for the radio buttons does not work. Coincidence?

You both are most likely new to Volvos - these cars eat bulbs like candy. it ain't a fuse. Use search, lots of posts about radio lights (easy) and dash lights (harder).

Well, there are about 50 bulbs on every car. Which bulb(s) as you asking about?

Odonovan, I don't even know what kind of car you have. Nor the year. This thread was started by someone else and you said you though you had a bad fuse. I'm going to assume you have a pre-'01 S/V70.

As for the gear shifter, you will have to take the center console out or loose to get the bulb out and another one in. You need to get a replacement from the stealer.

The radio buttons have 1 bulb per 3 buttons. Here is the link for that (I have a few of these bulbs if you need some).

can anyone tell me how to check/repair the bulb for the alarm on the dashboard near the windshield?? The light on my radio but the alarm light on the dash will not come on and in my neighborhood an alarm light makes THE difference

donf Nov 13, 2012 04:07 PM

No idea but you might get more action if you didn't rehash an old thread which wasn't about other bulbs.

Are you sure the alarm works? Roll a window down and lock the car. Then wait 10 minutes, reach your hand in the car, unlock the door, and see if the alarm goes off. If it doesn't, fix the alarm.

Youtube

IPD has a youtube video on how to convert your gauges to LED. Should be helpful in getting to the bulbs even if you just want to change them and not convert them.

FYI I looked into converting them and their kit is like $40 in case you're interested
