Replacing Tires

Hello All,

Great forum.

I run a '98 S70 with about 100k miles and have V-rated Michelin MXVs. The two front tires are older and are in desperate need of replacement. I live in a fairly hilly part of CT, so would like something that can handle turns, hills, and snow in addition to highway driving. V-rated MXVs are just too expensive, so am considering H-rated. Also considering the General Altimax HP that I've read so much about. I've read some other good posts but thought I'd see if there are any further thoughts.

Also, should I move the two rear old MXVs to the front and put the new tires on the back (posts I've read suggest this cuts fishtailing in wet and snow conditions) or just put the new tires on the front? I'm getting conflicting advice from local retailers.

Thanks very much for your thoughts.

replace all 4 tires

You definitely don't need V speed rated tires but you should replace all 4 tires not just the two badly worn front tires. If you're only going to replace two tires then put the new tires on the front, it's FWD after all and you need the best traction on your drive wheels. I'm sure the General Altimax are just fine. Checkout Tire Rack for other options and customer tire reviews.
