Default Exhaust manifold leak?

My 98 S70 non-turbo just failed inspection. I didn't talk to the mechanic who failed it, my wife did. He told her it had an exhaust manifold leak, but he couldn't be any more specific. When I look at it I can't see any leak, and most of the manifold is covered by a heat shield. I'm reluctant to remove the shield for a better look because the bolts look very rusty. I'm afraid of snapping one and then not being able to replace it. Has anybody else had any issue with a leaking manifold. Any advice on where I should be looking?

Thanks!

Default

Look under it and maybe get some soapy water to spray on it and locate it.
