s70 srs light keeps coming back on
 

1998 S70 GLT with 133K miles. My SRS light started coming on 5 years ago. Replaced drivers seat belt and was fine for 4 years. Came back on with same code and my mechanic cleared and came back on in 2 weeks. Had a used seat belt and installed that and no codes for 8 months. Came back on, cleared and OK for 4 months. Now replaced with new seat belt, cleared code and light came back on in 5 days. Any other ideas? Mechanic says connections look good, but nor sure which ones he checked. Thanks

Unfortunately you need a volvo proprietary scanner for anything other than OBD codes, which means typically only the dealer can scan the SRS codes.

Obviously your car has an intermittent fault somewhere in SRS system. Without scanning the code(s) and doing some diagnosis you would be completely guessing as to what needs replacing. Lots of components and wiring involved; front air bags, side air bags, seat belt tensioners, control module(s), etc.

Thanks for your reply. My mechanic ran some codes again and reports he narrowed it to the air bag control module. The code that kept coming up was for the driver seat belt tensioner. They stated the modules hardly ever go bad. I trust them, but I think they missed the boat on this issue. We'll see if it does the trick and should know pretty quickly.
